Vogue editors offered more than 1,100 suggestions for holiday giving in the two 1914 December issues. That count does not include the present of the unattributed December 1 cover that seems to have taken inspiration from the theme of the issue, Christmas gifts, as well as a story on decorative fowl within it. The artist has created a fantastical creature that is part woman, part peacock, and part Christmas tree. In the hand of this “bird” is a muff-wearing furry creature; on her boughs, as in the magazine’s pages, is “a treasury of gift suggestions.”

Ice skates hang ready for a winter wonderland outing while stowed stockings wait to be hung by the chimney with care. Boxes of decorations will soon be adorning the tree and last year’s wreath is ready for hanging.
